This exact area will change from time to time as business needs dictate; however, the responsibility within that area shall remain the same and include overall accountability for performance in 5 key performance areas:
People, Safety, Quality, Customer Service, and Cost Efficiency.
Each of these key performance areas shall have key performance indicators (KPIs) that are tracked and reported on a shift by shift basis.
As of the date of this document, the key performance indicators (KPIs) that the Business Unit Manager is accountable for are:
People, Safety, Quality, Customer Service, Cost Efficiency, Absenteeism, OSHA Recordable Rate, FTQ Attainment, Yield (Waste), Lbs/Man Hour, Operational Downtime.
It is expected that the Business Unit Manager would know how his/her area is performing in each of these KPIs on an hour to hour basis so that the shift can be actively managed to deliver standard or better than standard performance in these areas.
As such, the Business Unit Manager must have systems in place to measure and report these items.
Tasks:
Consistently deliver the production demand in the area Establish run-order for the daily production demand in the area Establish employee schedules to most effectively maximize KPI performance in the area Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are in place and employees are properly trained Establish tracking and reporting systems for shift based KPIs Establish visible reporting of the KPIs to all employees Manage day to day issues to ensure maximized KPI performance Influence peers and superiors to establish continuous improvement efforts Ensure all employees in the area have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be effective Confer/work closely with other Business Unit Managers to insure effective production operations Effectively manage all payroll and operations documentation Knowledge:
Understanding of the products and raw materials used in the area Understanding of the computer systems used in the area Understanding of the equipment used in the area and its function and capabilities Understanding of the employees and their capabilities in the area Knowledge of GMPs Knowledge of the HACCP plan for the area Knowledge of the KPIs and how they are calculated Good coaching and counseling skills Skills:
Good coaching and counseling skills Strong Problem Identification and Problem solving skills Basic math and algebra skills Mechanical Aptitude Proficiency in basic computer applications including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook The ability to communicate verbally and in writing Abilities:
Ability to deliver continuous improvement in KPIs through interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and leadership.
