Summary:
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the quality of resident care as it relates to the investigation, control, and prevention of infection.
Essential Duties:
Performs data collection regarding the occurrence of infections in the facility Performs surveillance to identify individual infections in residents and staff, and to identify clusters of infection in a timely manner Tracks trends in infection within the facility and reports specific infections/clusters to appropriate agencies, as required by state and local regulations Identifies infection control issues (e.
g.
, those identified during environmental rounds) and makes recommendations for corrective actions Prepares agenda for the Infection Prevention Committee as well as information for other committees as requested Monitors infection prevention and control practices as well as employee compliance Develops and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures and maintains the infection prevention and control manuals for all departments Researches and proposes protocol to ensure the facility stays up to date on current infection prevention related regulations and practices Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures Provides brief new employee orientation and continuing education related to infection prevention and control protocol for staff Provides infection prevention and control consultation to all departments Actively participates in quality improvement programs Reviews the use of antibiotics (including comparing prescribed antibiotics with available susceptibility reports), providing supporting evidence of necessity when needed Involves the Consultant Pharmacist with the oversight by identifying antibiotics prescribed for resistant organisms Monitors and tracks antibiotic use Reports to the QAPI committee quarterly Utilizes anti-biogram information for reporting quarterly to the IC&P committee Directs short- and long-term planning activities for infection prevention and control Serves as Facilitator/Liaison of the facility's Antibiotic Stewardship program Serves as a floor nurse, either regularly or as needed on a rotation with other supervisory nurses Other duties as assigned, including duties that may not be infection prevention related Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing Must hold an active Illinois Nursing License as an RN or LPN Excellent communication and organizational skills required Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel While this is typically a 40 hour/week, Monday-Friday position, there may be times during outbreaks or other temporary challenges where the responsibility of this role will be best served by flexing hours to offer support during weekend or evening hours Physical Requirements:
Walking and standing much of the day is required.
Frequent stooping, stretching, bending, reaching.
Often required to sit, using hands/fingers.
Often required to push/pull/lift and/or move up to 75lbs.
Some exposure to potentially hazardous equipment, chemicals, and infectious waste.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
